The Queer Skate Collective was set up by two friends in Edinburgh who wanted a space that could accommodate new skaters from diverse, queer backgrounds. We now have collectives across the country and hope to expand beyond. We practice inclusivity, intersectionality and collaboration in everything we do.
Get InvolvedThe Queer Skate Collective started in October 2020. Started by friends, Jude and Vaila, we quickly met new skaters and the collective started to grow. At the start, we were running socially distanced skate sessions across Edinburgh for anyone who associated with the word queer and appreciated the ethos of the space. However, with the heightened restrictions present at the beginning of 2021 we took to the internet and grew our community into a tight-knit group that could share their new skate successes as well as their personal ups and downs in a safe space. Utilising Discord we were able to cater for the wide range of interests and appreciations across the community and support. With open doors, you only need to ask and we can help you join the collective. We hope to be back and skating soon!
When our skate sessions are running we operate safe, socially distanced, beginner sessions twice a week. Tuesday’s offer the collective a quiet morning at one of the many skate parks around Edinburgh and Sunday’s allow a more varied and transient group to meet at one of many street spots around the city. As a result of the pandemic we have had to stop meeting physically in large groups but looking forward, we hope to get back into our routine and provide more days for new opportunities to learn and improve our skating.

Read MeWe now have a community collaborator team of eight that help run the social media, virtual sessions (like games nights and brunch) and support community engagement within the collective. From events, competitions, skating content and new projects we are always busy and looking for new projects with our members.
We have teams in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Dundee and Newcastle with new groups starting every month. We help with any support you need and provide the building blocks to get a Queer Skate Collective running in your area. We recommend at least two people supporting the work of any local collective to keep the energy manageable for all involved. To help get you started we can provide our support pack which includes some complimentary branding (although you are welcome to design your own), space on the discord for your local group leaders and space to have your say on the organisation of the queer skate collective network.
Anyone looking to start a new queer skate collective branch is more than welcome to send us a message and we can figure out how to best support your exciting new queer endeavour, whether you’re looking to be a part of our network or independent.
